Older systems would allow air bubbles to remain trapped in the damaged area, causing a number of problems to arise. Air bubbles can stay in the liquid resin that’s not fully pulled through the top. When the injection begins with the downward movement of a plunger, these bubbles are inevitably pushed back into the vessel. Gaps are left when air bubbles push the resin aside, which leads to weak repairs and an unattractive finish. As a result of the vacuum produced, all air is sucked out of the damaged area, after which the resin flows freely within that location. Any remaining resin reaches the piston machine that produces high pressure, pushing the fluid to the tighter sections of the broken glass. The repair area is then cured with a UV light, and held under pressure until it completely hardens.
