Everyone has the best of intentions when driving on
the road. Unfortunately, however, accidents do happen, and one of the more
common damages on vehicles to come about as a result of a collision or debris
making contact with a vehicle is the windshield. Not only does a crack
compromise the driver’s view of the road ahead, it also poses a hazard for all
the passengers within the car. Thankfully, windshield repairs have helped
consumers save millions of dollars over recent years, allowing
factory-installed auto glass to be successfully repaired quickly and safely
using scientifically-engineered plastic resins. It was in the 1970s that real
windshield repairs became possible. Since the first modern auto glass repair, a
large number of Scarborough auto glass repair
companies have emerged, offering consumers specialized assistance in bringing
windshields back up to par. While windshield repair has certainly been a huge
leap forward in the auto industry, methods to repair the glass have become much
more state-of-the-art over the recent past.
These days, auto glass repair has been updated. Innovative Whitby auto glass companies
have been savvy in their quest to adopt such advanced technologies in order to
better serve their clientele. “Smart” auto glass, as it is affectionately
referred to in the auto glass industry, incorporates a number of updated
technologies to benefit the driver. Up to recently, most auto repair
specialists have been using less-effective methods to attempt to vacuum the air
out of the damaged area on the windshield after resin has been introduced into
the glass or into the injector. Many kits do not even feature a vacuum, forcing
the technicians to have to remove the air via the resin rather than eliminating
the air prior to allowing the resin to make contact with the windshield glass.
A new technology in auto glass repair that is being used by Scarborough auto glass repair
shops is known as “PRISM,” which is short for ‘Pre Resin Injection Suspension
Method’. This innovative technique involves holding the resin off of the auto
glass while vacuuming out the air. It is this direct air-to-air exchange that
has proven to be much more effective compared to older, outdated techniques of
pulling the air through the resin. The latter method simply cannot get all of
the air out on a consistent basis. After the air has been successfully removed
via PRISM technology, the injector then allows the resin to flow into the
glass. Only then can pressure be utilized to fill up the damaged area on the
windshield repair resin.
The final result is much more effective in comparison to older
methods of auto glass repair. Older systems would allow air bubbles to remain
trapped in the damaged area, causing a number of problems to arise. Air bubbles
can stay in the liquid resin that’s not fully pulled through the top. When the
injection begins with the downward movement of a plunger, these bubbles are
inevitably pushed back into the vessel. Gaps are left when air bubbles push the
resin aside, which leads to weak repairs and an unattractive finish. The new
PRISM technology that savvy Whitby auto glass repair
shops use helps to alleviate this issue thanks to its dry cleaner technology.
As a result of the vacuum produced, all air is sucked out of the damaged area,
after which the resin flows freely within that location. Any remaining resin
reaches the piston machine that produces high pressure, pushing the fluid to
the tighter sections of the broken glass. The repair area is then cured with a
UV light, and held under pressure until it completely hardens. The end result
is a windshield repair of highest degree of quality in the auto glass repair
industry.
