Your windshield wipers are streaking so you decide
it’s time to buy new ones. Before you go to your auto mechanic shop and pay
what could easily become $40 to change a piece of rubber think about if you can
do it on your own. If you answered no you’re wrong. It is so easy to install
your own plates once you choose the right ones for your car. However, if you
are in doubt, always visit your Whitby auto glass shop so that you
can avoid damages.
Try it Out
Once you’ve purchased your new windshield wiper blades
it’s time to install them yourself. The process is very simple so don’t feel
alarmed or stressed out to do it on your own.
Step
1:
First, you want to raise the metal arm of your windshield wiper
blade up and away from your windshield. You know you’ve done this correctly
when I hold steady in a position perpendicular to your windshield glass. This
is pretty much the exact same position you would put your windshield wipers in
if it was snowing outside. You want to be careful when you do this because the
metal arm of your windshield wiper blade is spring-loaded. This means that the
windshield wiper arm could snap back into place and crack your windshield
glass, causing you to pay the Whitby auto glass team
a visit.
Step
2:
Once your windshield wiper blade is up and away from
your windshield you’ll want to find the latch behind the adapter and press it.
This will make the wiper blade slide down making it easier to remove.
Step
3:
After this, rest the bear hook that is exposed now
that you’ve taken the wiper blade off against a cloth on the windshield. This
cloth will act as a barrier and protect your windshield glass from being
scratched.
Step
4:
Once this is done you’ll want to clean your windshield
and the blade with mild soapy water and try it with a clean towel or cloth.
This is just to remove any residue or dirt that is left on your windshield.
This will also help to keep your new windshield wiper looking just as new once
you start using it because the leftover dirt and residue will be removed.
Step
5:
Once you do this you want to install your new wiper
blades on to the metal arm and remove the protective squeegee cover. This can
be a bit difficult to explain verbally because of the many different types of
windshield wipers. You can also look at the back of your windshield wiper
package for any additional installation tips. After this step, you’re basically
finished.
Finally
You can place the wiper blades back onto your
windshield. Just make sure to be gentle because you don’t want to damage your
windshield glass.
