HOW TO POLISH YOUR AUTO GLASS AT HOME

It’s inevitable that your car glass can get dirty and scratched up. Things like pebbles and dust and sand can get on your car glass and possibly damage it. Whenever you see scratches like this it might be a good idea to consider polishing your cars glass to remove the scratches.
According to many Whitby auto glass professionals, the first thing you want to do is choose

a good time and place to do this.  You don’t want to be in direct sunlight or a new really dry area when cleaning and polishing the windows of your car. If you were in areas like this could possibly try out the glass cleaner and leave streaks behind on your windshield which defeats what you actually did. You want to choose the right tools when cleaning your windows. You should purchase a glass cleaner that is specific for automotive use because it’s better than the regular house glass cleaner. Cleaners for your house often contain ammonia and other chemicals that could be dangerous to use on your car and dangerous for you in the passengers in your car.

Roll the windows of your car down just so that you can have clear access to the top edge of the glass. This way you can clean your windows properly and thoroughly. Once you do this you can spray the glass cleaner on your windows. You’ll want to spray the cleaner on a microfiber cloth and clean the window from one side to the other so that no streaks are left on the glass when it dries. You want to do this on the exterior and interior side of the glass. Once you do this you want to use the dry side of your microfiber cloth and remove any of the remaining moisture on your windows and dry them in the same motion in which you cleaned them. Once you do this you want to roll your windows back up and clean the bottom half in the same fashion.
When the windows are polished, you can move onto your front and back windshield. You will do this in the same way that you did your other windows. Once you do this you must rinse everything with water. Once you have gotten all the dirt off of your windows you can remove any streaks that you may have left behind or any residue from the cleaner or cloth by using water. Whitby auto glass workers suggest that you gently spread the glass and then wipe it dry with a clean microfiber towel.

Once the cleaning is done you can now select a glass polish that you can use on your car. There are many different types of glass polishers that are available to you. You can either select a glass polishing kit that comes with polishing discs to remove the more severe scratches in your glass or you can buy a high quality glass restore to remove any light scratches or spots on the glass. You want to use a low speed rotary polisher. It’s recommended that the speed setting be set in between 1000 and 1200 RPM. Also be sure to check and make sure that your polisher has a polishing pad on it. You want to put your lubricating oil on the polishing pad to help the polish spread more and reduce the amount of polish will actually need to use. Once you do this you can apply the polish to the polishing pad.
Start at the upper corner of the glass when polishing. You want to hold the handle with your dominant hand and use your other hand to guide the polisher. Be sure to not apply pressure since to tool will apply pressure on its own. Remember to cover the entire glass and get every part of the glass one polishing. After that, buff the remaining polish residue away with a clean microfiber cloth and circular motions. As you do this, you need to apply a glass ceiling to help the glass stay smooth and clear for a longer period of time.
